Which plan should I pick for Saudi Arabia?

Maps, WhatsApp, email and some social media use roughly 1GB a week for a light user; add video calls home and streaming on the move and 1GB a day is more realistic. For a short trip of up to a week, the 500MB plan at ₦2,090 is a sensible start; for a two-week holiday or a study trip, the larger bundles cost less per GB (the best value here works out at about ₦2,145 per GB). Check the validity too: the days count from the first time the eSIM connects to a network in Saudi Arabia, not from the day you buy, so you can install it at home without losing time.

Will my phone work in Saudi Arabia?

You need an eSIM-capable phone that is not locked to a carrier. That includes iPhone XR, XS and every later iPhone (except some models sold in mainland China; US-market iPhone 14 and 15 are eSIM-only), Samsung Galaxy S20 through S23 and newer (not FE models), the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series, Galaxy A54 5G, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and recent Huawei, Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo, OnePlus and Sony flagships. Dial *#06#: if an EID shows alongside the IMEI, you are good. The compatible phones list has every model.

How to install the eSIM

Connect to Wi-Fi first and have the QR code open on another screen (or saved as an image).

iPhone

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data) and tap Add eSIM.
  2. Choose Use QR Code and scan the code from your email.
  3. Label the line "Travel", keep your Nigerian SIM as the default for calls, and leave the eSIM's data off until you land in Saudi Arabia.

Android (Samsung, Pixel and others)

  1. Go to Settings > Connections (or Network & internet) > SIM manager and tap Add eSIM.
  2. Select Scan QR code from service provider and scan the code from your email.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps, then set the eSIM as the mobile data line when you arrive.

Once installed, turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only. The installation guide walks through it with screenshots.

Why an eSIM instead of roaming in Saudi Arabia

Roaming in the Gulf and Asia on a Nigerian SIM is billed at premium rates; a local eSIM usually works out several times cheaper per GB. With an eSIM you pay once, in naira, before you leave, and the amount on this page is the full cost; there is nothing to settle afterwards. You also keep your Nigerian number active for WhatsApp, calls and bank OTPs, which a local SIM bought on arrival cannot do. If the data runs out, the eSIM simply stops; buy another Saudi Arabia plan on Nata and scan again.

Frequently asked questions

Does my phone support eSIM?

Most phones from 2019 onwards do: iPhone XR, XS and every iPhone since (except some mainland-China models), Samsung Galaxy S20 to S23 and newer (not FE models), Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip, Galaxy A54 5G, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and recent Huawei, Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo, OnePlus and Sony flagships. To check, dial *#06# on your phone: if an EID number is listed, it supports eSIM.

How do I install the eSIM?

Connect to Wi-Fi, then on iPhone go to Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM > Use QR Code and scan the code from your email. On Android go to Settings > Connections (or Network) > SIM manager > Add eSIM > Scan QR code. Follow the on-screen steps; it takes about two minutes.

When should I activate it?

Install it at home on Wi-Fi before you travel, but keep the eSIM line's mobile data switched off until you land. The validity period starts when the eSIM first connects to a network in Saudi Arabia, so installing early does not waste days.

Can I keep my Nigerian number and WhatsApp?

Yes. The eSIM is a second line for data only. Leave your MTN, Airtel, Glo or 9mobile SIM in the phone with its roaming data switched off; your number, WhatsApp and bank OTPs keep working as normal while the eSIM supplies the internet.

How is the eSIM delivered?

Instantly. After payment the QR code and installation details are emailed to you (or to the person you are gifting it to), and the order also appears under eSIM orders in the Nata app, where you can open the QR code again at any time.

What happens when the data finishes?

The eSIM simply stops passing data; there is no overage bill. Buy another plan for Saudi Arabia on Nata and install it the same way. You can do that from abroad as long as you have Wi-Fi or any connection.

Is it cheaper than roaming?

Roaming in the Gulf and Asia on a Nigerian SIM is billed at premium rates; a local eSIM usually works out several times cheaper per GB. Prices on this page are the full price in naira; there is nothing extra to pay.

Can I top up or extend the eSIM?

Each plan is a fixed bundle. When it runs out or expires, buy a new plan on Nata and install it; it takes a couple of minutes.

Can I use the eSIM for calls and SMS?

No, these are data-only plans. Use WhatsApp, FaceTime or other internet calls over the eSIM data, and keep your Nigerian SIM for regular calls and SMS.

Can I buy an eSIM as a gift?

Yes. Choose "Buying for others" at checkout and enter the person's email address; the QR code and instructions go straight to them.
